Interior Painting
Questions about interior painting, prep, and finishes
We handle the heavy lifting. We move and cover furniture, protect floors, and mask off anything that should not be painted. We just ask that you put away small or fragile personal items beforehand.
Most interior projects receive two finish coats over properly prepared and primed surfaces. Dramatic colour changes or previously unpainted surfaces may require additional priming or coats, which we discuss in your estimate.
A single room is often completed in a day, while a full-home repaint can take several days depending on size, prep work, and colour changes. We provide a clear timeline in your estimate.
We use low-VOC paints that minimize odour, and we keep work areas ventilated. Most homeowners can comfortably remain in the home during interior projects.
Interior painting cost depends on the size of the space, surface condition, number of coats, and any colour changes. Most projects fall within a predictable range, and we provide a clear written estimate before any work begins — free, on-site, and with no obligation.
Yes. Chamos Painting is fully licensed and insured, carries liability insurance and WCB coverage, and is BBB A+ accredited. You can feel confident before we ever set foot in your home.
Exterior Painting
Exterior painting, surface prep, and weather-resistant coatings
Late spring through early fall offers the most reliable temperatures and dry conditions for exterior painting. We monitor the forecast and schedule work during suitable weather windows.
Yes. Thorough cleaning is essential for a lasting finish. We pressure wash and prepare all surfaces, then scrape, sand, prime, and caulk as needed before applying paint.
Absolutely. We paint stucco, wood and fibre-cement siding, trim, soffits, fascia, and doors, using coatings matched to each surface for durability against the elements.
With quality products and proper preparation, a professional exterior finish typically lasts many years. Longevity depends on surface type, sun exposure, and the products selected, which we review with you.
Cabinet Refinishing
Refinishing and repainting kitchen and bathroom cabinets
Yes, significantly. Refinishing existing cabinets typically costs a fraction of full replacement while delivering a fresh, modern look, especially when the cabinet boxes are still in good condition.
We use bonding primers and durable cabinet-grade coatings, applied with care, to create a smooth, hard-wearing finish that holds up to daily kitchen use.
There will be some disruption while doors and drawers are removed and finished, but we work efficiently to minimize downtime and keep the project on schedule.
Most kitchen cabinet projects take several days to allow for proper cleaning, priming, multiple coats, and curing. We provide a detailed timeline in your estimate.
Popcorn Ceiling Removal
Removing dated texture for a smooth, modern ceiling finish
It can be, which is why we mask and protect floors, walls, and fixtures before we start. We contain the dust as much as possible and finish with a thorough cleanup so the room is left tidy.
Yes. Removal is only the first step. We smooth and repair the surface, then prime and paint for a clean, modern finish, all in one project.
Smooth ceilings look more modern, reflect light better, and are easier to clean. Removing dated texture is one of the most noticeable ways to update a room.
Textured ceilings in Calgary homes built before the early 1990s can contain asbestos, which is only a hazard when disturbed. We recommend testing any older textured ceiling before removal. If asbestos is present, it must be removed by a licensed asbestos abatement contractor under Alberta Occupational Health & Safety rules — we do not disturb asbestos-containing material. Once a ceiling is confirmed asbestos-free or has been professionally abated, we handle the removal and refinishing.
Ceiling Texture
Applying, repairing, and matching knockdown and orange peel textures
Texture matching is something we take seriously. We assess your existing finish before we start and blend the new texture as closely as possible to the surrounding area. Orange peel patch-ins are typically the most forgiving — the pattern is consistent and blends well with a careful application. Heavier knockdown patterns are more individual, so while we will get very close, we will always be honest with you about the result you can expect rather than overpromise. Our goal is a ceiling that looks like nothing ever happened.
We work with knockdown and orange peel — the two most common finishes in Calgary homes — as well as other custom textures. Each has a distinct look: knockdown creates a subtle, irregular pattern from flattened joint compound; orange peel gives a finer, more consistent stipple. If you are undecided, we are happy to walk you through both and help you land on a finish that suits the room and your taste. Either way, we prime and paint over the top for a clean, complete result.
Popcorn is one specific type of textured ceiling — a heavy, bumpy spray finish that was widely used in Calgary homes through the 1980s and into the 1990s. Modern ceiling texture, like knockdown or orange peel, is applied with joint compound and creates a subtler, more contemporary look. If you have a dated popcorn ceiling you want gone, that is a separate removal process — we handle that too. If you want a fresh texture applied to a smooth or previously patched ceiling, that is what this service covers.
There is overspray and dust involved, yes — but managing it is part of the job. Before we begin, we mask floors, walls, and any fixtures in the work area. We work carefully to keep overspray contained, and we do a proper cleanup before we leave. You should not have to deal with any of it.
The price depends on the ceiling area, the texture type, and whether it is a full re-texture or a targeted patch repair. A small patch-in and a full room application are very different scopes, so we price each project individually. The best way to get an accurate number is an on-site look — our estimates are free, written, and come with no pressure to commit.
Drywall Repair
Patching holes, cracks, dents, and water-damaged drywall
Quite a range — from the small stuff like nail pops, hairline cracks, and doorknob holes to larger repairs like cutouts, damaged corners, and water-stained or sagging sections that need new board. Whatever the cause, the process is the same: assess the damage, cut and patch or replace the board, tape and mud in multiple coats, sand smooth, and prime and paint so the finished surface reads as one continuous wall.
It depends on the scope. A single small hole can be patched in one visit, but joint compound needs adequate drying time between coats before we can sand and paint — so even a quick repair often benefits from a follow-up day. Larger patches, board replacements, or multiple repairs across a room typically run two to three days to do properly. We will give you a clear timeline when we assess the work.
Not if we do our job properly — and we do. A quality repair means feathering the compound well beyond the patch edge, sanding until the transition disappears, and matching the surrounding texture and paint. When it is done right, there is no ridge, no shadow, and no obvious patch. We consider a repair finished only when it passes a close look under direct light.
Yes. We remove the damaged material, install new drywall where needed, and refinish and repaint the area to match the surrounding surface. There are two things to be clear about upfront: the source of the leak must be resolved before we start, and the area needs to be completely dry. If we find signs of mold during the repair, we will tell you — significant mold growth needs to be assessed and cleared by a specialist before we close the wall back up. Once the area is dry and clear, we handle the rest.
Repair costs vary a lot depending on the number of spots, the size of the damage, and whether texture matching or paint is part of the scope. A few nail pops is a very different job from a water-damaged section that needs new board and a texture match. We price each project after seeing it in person — estimates are free, written, and straightforward. Request yours and we will respond within 24 hours.
